40 Days of Prayer - Lynn Longfield
Not long ago we finished up our second Tri-Presbytery training session for G.A. Commissioners and Alternates from Olympia, Seattle, and North Puget Sound Presbyteries. Twice commissioners gathered to learn about the ins and outs of G.A. process, how schedules work, and how to guard their energy, health and workload during the upcoming 219th General Assembly in Minneapolis. But more importantly, we talked of seeking an attitude of discernment, explored issues likely to be front and center, and shared prayer requests. I want to share the latter with you.
Even though our commissioners were attentive and involved in all our discussions, when we turned to requests for prayer the energy in the room heightened even as spirits turned reflective. Moments of alive silence were followed by people eagerly sharing what they most needed us to pray for as they ventured toward the blessed privilege and responsibility of serving the PCUSA as commissioners.
Here is the list of the requests which flowed from the hearts of our people. Please pray that all commissioners might have:
Listening hearts atune to the Spirit -
Open hearts and minds receptive to and respectful of others
A spirit of playfulness and joy
Pray that they will be able to -
Maintain their physical stamina and health
Recognize their own thoughts, ideas and feelings and the movement of the Spirit
Share their hearts and minds articulately and effectively
Pray that they can -
Figure out the computer system
Work out personal schedules with effectiveness
Get the rest they need
And pray especially, that this year’s General Assembly gathering will help lead the PCUSA forward in a way that brings us all increased unity, vitality, and energy for the sake of Jesus Christ and God’s mission in the world. Thank you!
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you" I Thessalonians 5: 17-18.

Thanks, Lynn. Great practical advice. I appreciate your adding to our prayer focus as presbytery staff and commissioners.
