You are invited to write/create a prayer/reflection to be sent to members of AEPS and Stated Clerks......the 40 days before GA. Please read below.
I was with a small group of colleagues right after the Board of Pensions consultations, and we got to talking about General Assembly. We were bemoaning the highly partisan, nonrational, shrill climate of national politics, and someone noted that our General Assembly this summer could turn into a microcosm of the same rancor and discontent. The idea emerged to call one another in the Association of Executive Presbyters and Stated Clerks to a time of prayer and reflection for the 40 days prior to General Assembly. As a reminder and stimulus for this call to prayer and reflection, there would be a daily e-mail blast written by a member of AEPS which would encourage and support our prayer and reflection. It might be a scripture with a short reflection, a poem, an account of some uplifting experience, a short story, a film review: the only rule would be that it not directly address the legislative matters and other hot button issues before the General Assembly. The intent is to open all of us to God’s mind and possibilities for the future witness of the PCUSA.
We are hoping that once these prayers/reflections are received, they might be forwarded to General Assembly Commissioners or others who are preparing to attend General Assembly. It could be a welcomed relief from the lobbying coming their way.
I hope you will agree to create one of these prayers/reflections. Please let me know by Friday, May 7. The first one will be sent on Monday, May 24. Some of these, therefore, need to be written and sent to me very, very soon! So, once you agree, please send me your thoughtful reflection shortly thereafter! Thank you!!!!!
Blessings, Betty
